ABSTRACT Modeling the response of soils to liming is important for understanding neutralization reactions and predicting lime residual effects. Models based on simple or quadratic polynomial equations are the most used due to their simplicity and ease of fitting; however, they fail to reproduce a realistic soil response to liming, indicating a decrease in pH as the lime dose is increased after reaching a maximum point. Thus, several nonlinear functions were tested and compared to polynomial models, using a dataset from a liming test conducted on a sandy clay loam soil in a farm. The best-fitting models for pH data were the Mitscherlich, three-parameter logistic, and Morgan-Mercer-Flodin models. The best-fitting models for exchangeable Ca+2 + Mg+2 data were Skaggs et al., Gompertz, and Morgan- Mercer-Flodin. The use of the proposed T index, which ranks models based on their residual standard error and Akaike information criterion values, combined with constraints on extrapolation values, was useful for selecting models that are statistically robust and empirically coherent.

RESUMO A modelagem da resposta de solos à calagem é importante para a compreensão das reações de neutralização e para a predição de seu efeito residual. Os modelos baseados em equações polinomiais simples ou múltiplas são os mais usados, em função de sua simplicidade e facilidade de ajuste, mas falham em reproduzir uma resposta realística à calagem, indicando um decréscimo do pH com a dose, após o máximo valor ter sido alcançado. Neste trabalho, uma série de funções não lineares foi comparada à polinomial, usando uma base de dados de um teste de calagem em uma fazenda com solo franco-argilo-arenoso. Os melhores modelos foram os de Mitscherlich, o logístico de três parâmetros e o modelo de Morgan, Mercer e Flodin. Para os dados de Ca+2 + Mg+2 trocáveis, os melhores modelos foram os Skaggs et al., o de Gompertz e o modelo de Morgan Mercer e Flodin. O uso conjunto do proposto índice T, baseado no ranqueamento dos modelos baseado em seus valores de erro padrão residual e do critério de Akaike, associados às restrições dos valores extrapolados, ajudaram na escolha de modelos que são estatisticamente robustos e empiricamente coerentes.

Abstract Although delta ferrite is a very common phase in most austenitic stainless steels, studies about its formation and evolution during slab processing from industrial heats of tens of tons are scarce. The main objective of this research is to study the evolution of delta ferrite (quantity, chemical composition, morphology, and distribution) along the production route from the cast slab to the coil of an industrial heat of 80 tons of 304 stainless steel. Samples were extracted after the following processing steps: continuous casting, first and second hot-rolling pass, and solution-heat-treating, arriving at the final commercial condition. Sample analyses were carried out with several complementary microstructural characterization techniques: optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction, and magnetic measurements of delta ferrite content (feritscope). Thermocalc® indicates that the present continuous cast slab solidifes according to the FA (ferrite-austenite) mode and the final microstructure should be completely austenitic in equilibrium conditions. Nevertheless, delta ferrite is detected along the processing steps, indicating that the steel is out of phase equilibrium. The ferrite content measured after solidification varies significantly across the as-cast slab thickness. Lower values are detected on the surfaces, followed by a gradual increase when moving into the slab, reaching a peak, and finally decreasing at the slab center. This pattern of delta ferrite content is named “M type” distribution. The average content of delta ferrite decreases after each subsequent processing step, namely the two hot-rolling passes and the solution heat-treating.

ABSTRACT. The diversity of soils and climate in Brazil imposes the need to evaluate the adaptation of fodder species to soil and climate conditions to guide producers and technicians in choosing the best alternatives for their region. The objective of this study was to evaluate and identify fodder cultivars for pasture and soil cover with tolerance to drought and high production in the sandy soils of southern Bahia, Brazil. The performance of 29 commercial cultivars of perennial and annual tropical forage species was evaluated in six cuts in 2019 and 2020. The green and dry mass yield per cut and the daily dry matter accumulation rate were evaluated considering the periods of water surplus and deficit and the drought tolerance index for each cultivar was estimated. Grass and legume cultivars showed differences in establishment, yield in the water surplus, and in the re-establishment after the water deficit. Based on the values of the drought tolerance index and in the dry mass daily yields before and after the water deficit, the cultivars adapted and indicated for regional continuous grazing were Xaraés, Marandu, Massai, Tanzânia, Paiaguás, and Zuri, in that order. The grasses B. ruziziensis and B. decumbens were indicated for use as cover plants after the harvest due to their high capacity of establishment and short-term production. The annual and perennial legume plants were also indicated for cover, and the combination of cultivars and their potential for straw in direct planting or use in integrated systems still need to be validated.

Abstract Background Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is the main etiological factor for the development of cervical cancer. HPV 18 is the second most frequent type, accounting for up to 65% of all cases. HPV intratypic variation may influence the potential for progression to invasive cancer. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of human papillomavirus 18 intratypic variants in cervical cancer samples from women in the state of Maranhão, Brazil. Methods The study included 118 women over 18 years of age with a diagnosis of cervical cancer. Tumor fragments were collected and subjected to DNA extraction and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) for HPV detection using the PGMY09/11 and GP+5/6 primers. Positive samples were submitted to automated sequencing for viral genotyping. To determine the HPV 18 lineages, positive samples were submitted to PCR, using specific primers to amplify the LCR and E6 regions of HPV 18 virus. Results HPV was present in 88 women (73.3%). Of those, 48 (54%) were HPV 16, the most prevalent, followed by 12 (13.6%) HPV 18. Histologically, squamous cell carcinoma was predominant (79.1%). Among the HPV 18 variants identified, 10 (80%) belonged to lineage A, and sublineages A1, A2, A3, and A4. Two (29%) HPV 18 B variant was also detected, with the sublineages B1 and B2. In this study, the C variant was not found. There was no statistically significant association between the HPV 18 lineages found and sociodemographic and lifestyle variables (p > 0.05). Conclusions A higher frequency of HPV 16 and 18 were found in women with cervical cancer in the state of Maranhão, Brazil, with a high prevalence of the lineage A among women with HPV 18.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to analyze the test results of speech perception and spoken language in children with hearing loss and auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder, users of hearing aids or cochlear implants. Methods: a systematic review of the literature based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Consultation was performed in databases, considering studies from 1996 to 2021, selecting the studies that presented the results of speech perception or spoken language in children with bilateral auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder, with no structural alterations of the ear and/or vestibulocochlear nerve, or other associated impairments. Descriptive analysis was performed. Literature Review: among 1,422 studies found, 15 were included. Variability in the sample size, types of studies, evaluation procedures and methodological questions were observed. The cochlear implants and hearing aids contributed to the development of speech perception and spoken language in children with auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder, since skills such as auditory comprehension and speech intelligibility, were achieved. Conclusion: 15 studies suggest that cochlear implants and hearing aids may be effective for speech perception and spoken language development in children with auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder, with no other associated impairments. The need for further research with a high methodological rigor is highlighted.

RESUMO Objetivo: analisar os resultados de testes percepção da fala e linguagem falada de crianças com espectro da neuropatia auditiva, usuárias de aparelho de amplificação sonora individual ou implante coclear. Métodos: revisão sistemática da literatura, baseada no guideline Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses. Levantaram-se, em bases de dados, estudos entre 1996 e 2021, que apresentavam os resultados de percepção da fala ou linguagem falada de crianças com espectro da neuropatia auditiva bilateral, sem alterações estruturais da orelha/nervo vestíbulo-coclear, ou comprometimentos associados. Os dados foram analisados descritivamente. Revisão da Literatura: dentre 1422 estudos encontrados, 15 foram incluídos. Observou-se variabilidade no tamanho das amostras, tipos de estudos, procedimentos de avaliação e questões metodológicas. O implante coclear e o aparelho de amplificação sonora individual contribuíram para o desenvolvimento da percepção da fala e linguagem falada de crianças com espectro da neuropatia auditiva, pois foram alcançadas habilidades, como a compreensão auditiva e inteligibilidade da fala. Conclusão: 15 estudos sugeriram que o implante coclear e o aparelho de amplificação sonora individual podem ser efetivos para o desenvolvimento da percepção da fala e linguagem falada de crianças com espectro da neuropatia auditiva sem outros comprometimentos associados. Ressalta-se a necessidade de pesquisas com alto rigor metodológico.

ABSTRACT The objective of the present study was to detect endophytic fungi associated with the seeds of 11 forest species. Ten genera of endophytic fungi were found associated with the seeds of those species. The most frequent fungi found in the seed lots were Aspergillus sp., Penicillium and Fusarium. Trichoderma sp. and Phomopsis sp. were also detected.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi detectar fungos endofíticos associados às sementes de 11 espécies florestais. Dez gêneros de fungos endofíticos foram associados às sementes dessas espécies. Os fungos encontrados com maior frequência nos lotes de sementes foram Aspergillus sp., Penicillium e Fusarium. Encontrou-se também Trichoderma sp. e Phomopsis sp.

Abstract Background Cognitive dysfunction (CD) is a widespread manifestation in adult systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients, but this subject is rarely examined in patients with childhood-onset SLE (cSLE). This study aimed to assess the frequency of CD, its associations with lupus clinical manifestations and its impact on the health-related quality of life (HRQL) in young adult cSLE patients. Methods We evaluated 39 cSLE patients older than 18 years. They underwent a rheumatologic evaluation and extensive neuropsychological assessment, encompassing all cognitive domains described by the American College of Rheumatology. HRQL was assessed with the WHOOQOL-BREEF, General Activities of Daily Living Scale (GADL) and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus-specific quality-of-life instrument (SLEQOL). The activity of SLE was evaluated with the modified sle disease activity index (sledai-2k). Results Impairment in at least one cognitive domain was found in 35 (87.2%) patients. The most compromised domains were attention (64.1%), memory (46.2%), and executive functions (38.5%). Patients with cognitive impairment were older, had more accumulated damage and had worse socioeconomic status. Regarding the association between cognitive dysfunction and HRQL, memory impairment was correlated with worse environmental perception and a worse relationship with the treatment. Conclusion In this study, the frequency of CD in cSLE patients was as high as that in the adult SLE population. CD can significantly impact the response of cSLE patients to treatment, justifying preventive measures in the care of this population.

Abstract Dermatitis is defined as a set of inflammatory diseases that affect the skin, with varied causes. Among the different types of dermatitis, contact dermatitis is the most prevalent. Although the current therapy is often effective, it is associated with adverse effects and the possibility of drug tolerance. N-Methyl-(2S, 4R)-trans-4-hydroxy-L-proline is a L-proline amino acid derivative found in the leaves of Sideroxylon obtusifolium, a species traditionally used to treat inflammatory diseases. The aim of this study was to investigate the topical anti-inflammatory effect of N-methyl-(2S, 4R)-trans-4-hydroxy-L-proline (NMP) in 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA)-induced irritant contact dermatitis in mice. Topically administered NMP, at doses of 0.03 − 0.50 mg/ear, reduced TPA-induced ear edema and neutrophil migration, as evidenced by low tissue myeloperoxidase activity and verified by histological examination. In addition, NMP (0.06 mg/ear) reduced tissue levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β, INF-γ and MCP-1) and of the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10, and reduced gene expression of TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1β increased by TPA. The data suggest that N-methyl-(2S, 4R)-trans-4-hydroxy-L-proline acts as a topical anti-inflammatory agent that decreases the expression of inflammatory cytokines, making it useful for the treatment of skin inflammation. Further investigations are necessary for its development as a therapeutic agent.

Abstract Objective Takayasu arteritis (TAK) is a rare chronic granulomatous vasculitis that affects large vessels and usually begins in women of childbearing age, so it is not uncommon for pregnancies to occur in these patients. However, there is limited information about these pregnancies, with reports of adverse maternal and obstetric outcomes. The objective of this study is to evaluate adverse maternal, fetal and neonatal events in pregnant patients with TA. Methods This is a cross-sectional study with retrospective data collection. We reviewed 22 pregnancies in 18 patients with TAK, according to the American College of Rheumatology criteria, that were followed up in a high-risk prenatal clinic specialized in systemic autoimmune diseases and thrombophilia (PrAT) at Hospital Universitário Pedro Ernesto, from 1998 to 2021. Results In twenty-two pregnancies, the mean age of patients was 28.09 years and the mean duration disease was 10.9 years. Of the 18 patients with TAK studied, only one had the diagnosis during pregnancy and had active disease. All other patients had a previous diagnosis of TAK and only 3 had disease activity during pregnancy. Twelve patients (66.6%) had previous systemic arterial hypertension and eleven (61.1%) had renal involvement. Among maternal complications, eight patients (36.3%) developed preeclampsia and six (27.2%) had uncontrolled blood pressure without proteinuria, while 10 (45%) had puerperal complications. Four (18.1%) births were premature, all due to severe preeclampsia and eight newborns (34.7%) were small for gestational age. When all maternal and fetal/neonatal outcomes included in this study were considered, only 6 (27.2%) pregnancies were uneventful. Conclusion Although there were no maternal deaths or pregnancy losses in this study, the number of adverse events was considerably high. Hypertensive disorders and small for gestational age newborns were more common than general population, while the number of patients with active disease was low. These findings suggest that pregnancies in patients with TAK still have several complications and a high-risk prenatal care and delivery are necessary for these patients.

Various beneficial biological activities have been reported for passion fruit (Passiflora edulis), grown in tropical and subtropical regions. However, no study has yet demonstrated its action against the Zika virus (ZIKV) infection. The present study aimed to investigate the anti-ZIKV of the ethanolic passion fruit seed extract (PFSE), from which, liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) analysis allowed to putatively annotate the occurrence of piceatannol, astringin, scirpusin A, scirpusin B, isookanin-7-O-glucoside and naringenin-7-O-glucoside, two quadranguloside derivatives, tyrosine, and phenylalanine. PFSE is well tolerated by cell lines (Vero E6 and HTR-8/SVneo) and tissue explants from the human placenta. With 1- and 24-h treatments, PFSE consistently reduced the viral load and NS1 protein expression of the two strains of ZIKV (MR766 and PE243) in placental explants and cell lines. Thus, PFSE has a promising potential for developing anti-ZIKV treatments, protecting the placenta against infection caused by ZIKV, along with relevant antioxidant potential, represented by ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) of 390.5 Trolox eq per g dry extract and half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) for 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH•) of 12.1 µg mL-1, and more than 90% protection from lipid peroxidation. Although further studies need to be conducted, PFSE treatment was safe and effective in trophoblast cells and placental explants, thus representing a promising class of all-accessible products based on the reuse of industrial by-products.

RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar a síndrome do doente eutireóideo como fator prognóstico em pacientes na unidade de terapia intensiva, detectar fatores que possam influenciar a mortalidade e desenvolver uma equação para calcular a probabilidade de morte. Métodos: Este foi um estudo de coorte longitudinal, observacional e não concorrente realizado na unidade de terapia intensiva da Fundação Santa Casa de Misericórdia do Pará. Realizou-se coleta de 20mL de sangue em 100 adultos sem endocrinopatia previamente documentada para a dosagem do hormônio estimulante da tireoide, da tetraiodotironina livre, da tri-iodotironina livre e da tri-iodotironina reversa. Resultados: A maioria dos pacientes era do sexo feminino, com idades entre 20 e 29 anos. A maioria dos pacientes que morreram era mais velha (idade mediana de 48 anos), e 97,5% deles possuíam a síndrome do doente eutireóideo. A síndrome do doente eutireóideo esteve relacionada à morte, às comorbidades, à idade e ao tempo de internação (mediana de 7,5 dias) na unidade de terapia intensiva. A baixa dosagem de hormônio estimulante da tireoide estava associada à morte. Os pacientes com dosagem da tri-iodotironina livre menor que 2,9pg/mL tinham maior probabilidade de morrer e, naqueles que morreram, a dosagem de tri-iodotironina reversa era maior que 0,2ng/mL. A tri-iodotironina livre apresentou maior sensibilidade e acurácia, e a tri-iodotironina reversa teve maior especificidade para prever a mortalidade. Com base nos resultados e pontos de corte, desenvolveu-se uma fórmula de regressão logística múltipla para calcular a probabilidade de morte. Conclusão: Sugere-se verificar oportunamente a dosagem da triiodotironina livre e reversa em pacientes graves e aplicar a equação proposta.

ABSTRACT Objective: To assess euthyroid sick syndrome as a prognostic factor in patients in the intensive care unit; to detect factors that may affect mortality; and to develop an equation to calculate death probability. Methods: This was a longitudinal, observational, nonconcurrent cohort study developed in the intensive care unit of Fundação Santa Casa de Misericórdia do Pará. One hundred adults with no prior documented endocrinopathy were submitted to a 20mL blood sample collection for the measurement of thyroid stimulating hormone, free tetraiodothyronine, free triiodothyronine and reverse triiodothyronine. Results: Most patients were female, aged 20 to 29 years. Most patients who died were older (median age of 48 years), and euthyroid sick syndrome was present in 97.5% of them. Euthyroid sick syndrome was related to death, comorbidities, age and length of stay in the intensive care unit (median of 7.5 days). There was an association between lower thyroid stimulating hormone and death. Patients with free triiodothyronine levels below 2.9pg/mL were more likely to die; reverse triiodothyronine rates were above 0.2ng/mL in those who died. Free triiodothyronine had greater sensitivity and accuracy, and reverse triiodothyronine had greater specificity to predict mortality. Based on the results and cutoff points, a multiple logistic regression formula was developed to calculate the probability of death. Conclusion: The main limitation of this study is the fact that it was conducted in a reference hospital for maternal and child care; therefore, there was a greater number of female patients and, consequently, a sampling bias existed. However, opportune measurement of free and reverse triiodothyronine levels in critical patients and application of the proposed equation are suggested.

RESUMO Objetivo caracterizar a produção da fala de crianças e adolescentes usuários de aparelho de amplificação sonora individual (AASI) ou implante coclear (IC) de um programa de reabilitação auditiva. Métodos estudo observacional transversal. Foram analisadas amostras de fala de 15 participantes de um programa de reabilitação auditiva, que consistiam na prova de fonologia do ABFW (ABFW - Teste de Linguagem Infantil nas Áreas de Fonologia, Vocabulário, Fluência e Pragmática) e na fala espontânea, adaptada do Protocolo de Avaliação de Voz do Deficiente Auditivo. Foi aplicado o teste de Wilcoxon para comparar os índices de Porcentagem de Consoantes Corretas (PCC) e Porcentagem de Consoantes Corretas revisado (PCC-r) das provas de fonologia e o teste de Mann-Whitney para comparar os referidos índices, em relação aos graus de inteligibilidade da fala espontânea. Também foi analisada a variabilidade de produção dos fonemas das provas de fonologia. Resultados verificou-se desvio leve nos índices de PCC e PCC-r para as provas de fonologia, com escores superiores para o PCC-r. Os participantes com médias maiores que 85% alcançaram inteligibilidade “Boa” e participantes com médias entre 85% e 50% apresentaram inteligibilidade “Regular/Insuficiente”. Os usuários de AASI não produziram adequadamente os fonemas /s/, /z/, /Ʒ/ /ɲ/, /l, /ʎ/, arquifonema /S/ e arquifonema /R/ e os usuários de IC, os fonemas /ʎ/ e arquifonema /R/. Conclusão o grupo estudado apresentou desvio leve nos índices de PCC e PCC-r, com médias superiores, quando considerada a distorção como acerto. Participantes com inteligibilidade “Boa” apresentaram maiores escores de PCC e PCC-r. Usuários de AASI não produziram fonemas fricativos adequadamente. Foram observadas produções com variação linguística social e regional.

ABSTRACT Purpose To characterize the speech production of children and adolescents from an auditory rehabilitation program who use hearing aids (HA) or cochlear implant (CI). Methods Cross-sectional observational study. Speech samples from 15 participants of a hearing rehabilitation program were analyzed through the phonology test of the ABFW Test and spontaneous conversation, which were adapted from the Protocol for the Evaluation of Voice in Subjects with Hearing Impairment. The Wilcoxon test was used to compare the Percentage of Consonants Correct (PCC) and the Percentage of Consonants Correct–revised (PCC-r) indexes of the phonology test, and the Mann-Whitney test was used to compare these indexes to the degrees of intelligibility of spontaneous conversation. The variability of production of the phonemes of the phonology tests was also analyzed. Results There was a mild deviation in the PCC and PCC-r indexes for the phonology tests, with higher scores for the PCC-r. Participants with averages greater than 85% achieved “Good” intelligibility, and participants with averages between 85% and 50% had “Regular/Insufficient” intelligibility. The HA users did not properly produce the phonemes /s/, /z/, /Ʒ/ /ɲ/, /l, /ʎ/, the archiphoneme /S/, and the archiphoneme /R/. The CI users did not properly produce the phonemes /ʎ/ and the archiphoneme /R/. Conclusion The group had a mild deviation in the PCC and PCC-r indexes, with higher means when the distortion was considered correct. Participants with “Good” intelligibility had higher PCC and PCC-r scores. HA users did not produce fricative phonemes properly. There were productions with a social and regional linguistic variation.

RESUMO Objetivo: Investigar a correlação entre achados de TCAR e a atividade metabólica pulmonar nas regiões correspondentes por meio de PET/TC com 18F-FDG e marcadores inflamatórios em pacientes com doença pulmonar intersticial (DPI) associada à esclerose sistêmica (ES). Métodos: Estudo transversal envolvendo 23 pacientes adultos com DPI associada à ES sem outras doenças do tecido conjuntivo. O estudo também envolveu PET/TC com 18F-FDG, TCAR, dosagem sérica de quimiocinas, dados clínicos e testes de função pulmonar. Resultados: Nessa coorte de pacientes com doença de longa duração (11,8 ± 8,7 anos), 19 (82,6%) apresentaram o padrão de pneumonia intersticial não específica. A mediana dos valores padronizados de captação foi maior nas áreas de faveolamento (1,95; p = 0,85). Os níveis séricos de soluble tumor necrosis factor receptor 1, soluble tumor necrosis factor receptor 2, C-C motif chemokine ligand 2 (CCL2) e C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 10 foram maiores nos pacientes com ES que nos controles. Os níveis séricos de CCL2 - um marcador de atividade fibroblástica - correlacionaram-se com áreas de opacidade em vidro fosco (OVF) pura na TCAR (p = 0,007). A PET/TC com 18F-FDG mostrou atividade metabólica significativa para todos os padrões de TCAR. A correlação entre níveis séricos de CCL2 e OVF na TCAR sugere que os fibroblastos desempenham um papel fundamental nessas áreas, acrescentando novas informações para a compreensão dos mecanismos que envolvem elementos celulares e moleculares e sua expressão na TCAR em pacientes com DPI associada à ES. Conclusões: A PET/TC com 18F-FDG aparentemente não consegue diferenciar a intensidade da atividade metabólica nos diferentes padrões de TCAR em pacientes com ES crônica. A associação entre CCL2 e OVF pode estar relacionada à atividade fibroblástica nessas áreas; entretanto, a expressão suprarregulada de CCL2 no tecido pulmonar de pacientes com ES deve ser investigada para que se compreenda melhor essa associação.

ABSTRACT Objective: To investigate the correlation of HRCT findings with pulmonary metabolic activity in the corresponding regions using 18F-FDG PET/CT and inflammatory markers in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc)-associated interstitial lung disease (ILD). Methods: This was a cross-sectional study involving 23 adult patients with SSc-associated ILD without other connective tissue diseases. The study also involved 18F-FDG PET/CT, HRCT, determination of serum chemokine levels, clinical data, and pulmonary function testing. Results: In this cohort of patients with long-term disease (disease duration, 11.8 ± 8.7 years), a nonspecific interstitial pneumonia pattern was found in 19 (82.6%). Honeycombing areas had higher median standardized uptake values (1.95; p = 0.85). Serum levels of soluble tumor necrosis factor receptor 1, soluble tumor necrosis factor receptor 2, C-C motif chemokine ligand 2 (CCL2), and C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 10 were higher in SSc patients than in controls. Serum levels of CCL2-a marker of fibroblast activity-were correlated with pure ground-glass opacity (GGO) areas on HRCT scans (p = 0.007). 18F-FDG PET/CT showed significant metabolic activity for all HRCT patterns. The correlation between serum CCL2 levels and GGO on HRCT scans suggests a central role of fibroblasts in these areas, adding new information towards the understanding of the mechanisms surrounding cellular and molecular elements and their expression on HRCT scans in patients with SSc-associated ILD. Conclusions: 18F-FDG PET/CT appears to be unable to differentiate the intensity of metabolic activity across HRCT patterns in chronic SSc patients. The association between CCL2 and GGO might be related to fibroblast activity in these areas; however, upregulated CCL2 expression in the lung tissue of SSc patients should be investigated in order to gain a better understanding of this association.

RESUMO Objetivo: elaborar listas de sentenças no Português Brasileiro, com vocabulário baseado em situações de comunicação do dia a dia, para a avaliação da percepção auditiva dos sons da fala em crianças. Métodos: o material utilizado para a obtenção das sentenças foi um corpus do Português Brasileiro, com adequações aos critérios estabelecidos nesta pesquisa e analisado por juízes. Foram elaboradas 37 listas, compostas por 13 sentenças e 50 vocábulos fonológicos, que foram denominados palavras-chave. O material foi aplicado em 10 crianças sem queixas auditivas ou de comunicação, na faixa etária entre seis e 10 anos. Foi aplicado o teste de Friedman para verificar possíveis diferenças entre as listas. O nível de significância adotado foi de 5% (0,05). Resultados: a média do índice de reconhecimento de fala apresentada pelos participantes nas 37 listas de sentenças foi de 96,8%. As 37 listas foram estatisticamente semelhantes (p= 0,140). Conclusão: o material elaborado possui sentenças que representam situações de comunicação do dia a dia de crianças, é de fácil e rápida aplicação.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to develop lists of sentences in Brazilian Portuguese based on daily vocabulary to evaluate auditory speech perception in children. Methods: a Brazilian Portuguese corpus with adaptations to attend the criteria established for this study and analyzed by judges was used to obtain the sentences. Thirty-seven lists, each composed of thirteen sentences with fifty phonological keywords, were constructed. The material was presented to ten children, aged between 6 and 10 years, with no hearing or communication complaints. The Friedman test was applied to verify possible differences among the lists. The level of significance adopted was 5% (0.05). Results: the mean speech recognition index presented by the participants was 96.8% for all lists. The thirty-seven lists were considered statistically similar (p=0.140). Conclusion: the developed material proved to contain sentences that represent situations of children’s day-to-day communication and its application is easy and quick.

The phytochemical reinvestigation from the heartwood of the extracts of Cordia glazioviana led to the isolation of four still undescribed hydroquinones derivatives designated as cordiaquinol D (1), cordiaquinol E (2), (10R)-10,11-dihydrofuran-1,4-dihydroxy-globiferin (3) and 2-[(1’E,6’E)-3’,8’- dihydroxy-3’,7’-dimethylocta-1’,6’-dienyl]-benzene-1,4-diol (4), along with the naphthoquinone 6-[(2’R)-2’-hydroxy-3’,6’-dihydro-2H-pyran-5’-yl]-2-methoxy-7-methylnaphthalene-1,4-dione (5). Additionally, six previously known compounds were also isolated: rel-1,4-dihydroxy-8(,11(;9(,11(-diepoxy-2-methoxy-8a(-methyl-5,6,7,8,8a,9,10,10a-octahydro-10-antracenone (6), didehydroconicol (7), 1(,6(-dihydroxy-7-epi-eudesm-3-ene (8), 1(,6(-dihydroxy-7-epi-eudesm-4(15)-ene (9), 10,11-dihydroxybisabolol (10), and hamanasal-A (11). The structures of the new compounds were assigned by high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analyses. The relative stereochemistry of 3, 4, and 5 was improved by quantum mechanical calculations. Eight, out of the eleven isolated compounds (2-9), were tested through cellular viability and lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation assays against RAW 264.7 macrophage-like cells. Compounds 3-5 exhibited a stronger effect on LPS-induced NO production (half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) 50.34, 105.83, and 66.73 µM, respectively).
